My struggle....

"...And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8

This is probably one of my favorite verses. And Today I felt inspired to write about my eternal/internal struggle.

I have been writing light, airy, fun entries lately, but not today. Everyday I wake up and I begin to struggle. I always want to do what is right-what is best for everyone. I try to watch where I shop, support those who are need, and think of ways to better the environment and world so we can all enjoy it. This is something important to me because I believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Though I may never know what it really is like to struggle and suffer- I do know no one deserves to live this way.

What am I talking about??? I am talking about everything- from Sweatshops to Racism, from Global Warming to Domestic Violence, from Homelessness to War.

There is so much going on in our world every day, it makes reading the news hard. Playing off my previous post, the world is need of a makeover!

We all know my hate for Wal-Mart, but lately I found out Target may not be much better. The website knowmore.org gives information on different corporations who really don't care about much except making a profit. This really upsets me because, I think I am doing something good and find out I am doing just as much harm. So why does this continue to happen? Because we allow it to. Sometimes it is easier to pretend it doesn't go on, or to ignore it. I think if we DEMAND a change and settle for nothing less-there can be a change. I could write for years about how evil Corporate America etc. is but I think we all know that.

My challenge is to fight ignorance and learn about where you are getting stuff or how it is made. I bet you will be surprised.

I know you are thinking I am fighting something that is much bigger than me, but I am sick of what is going on. I need a change and I hope you do too!

This is how I will act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with my God. I know there are different plans for all of us, what are yours? Or more importantly,What does the Lord require of you?

Those are overwhelming thoughts... I think the key is to start with yourself, affect others around you, and let it ripple out from there. I think that's all one really CAN do. I think America is addicted to cheap stuff, and that's what drives places like Wal-Mart and Target. Since China can do it cheapest, that's where all the stuff is coming from. We are addicted to cheap stuff and sacrifice quite a bit for it.
I guess I don't worry too much about it, to be honest. I am probably part of the problem, since I'm on a budget. Biblically, I try to keep priorities simple: Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, mind and soul, and the second-greatest is to love your neighbor as yourself. Remember, God is in control of all the world's situations, even when they aren't perfect. You just be God's agent in your corner of the world! And God will take care of all injustice and evil.
